Default Sim cards

It seems all UK sim cards now need topping up before receiving SMS, is that right?

It's going to get expensive making multiple accounts as the minimum top up is £5

Anyone have any workarounds?

Is 5 quid top up that expensive? How long is the top up good for?

How long is a piece of string ? Depends on the network and plan, if you choose wisely and just make 1 call a month to keep it alive it could last 1-2 years.

Its not really a issue for eBay as you're unlikely to be registering many accounts and you need the number for the life of the account anyway.

Only becomes a issue for services where your opening 10's or 100's of accounts a month and only need to receive one verification txt, would soon add up at £5 a time.

#3 Making multiple accounts per week, and losing a total of £6 if the account becomes toast is a lot

I think EE do not require a top-up in order to just receive SMS codes.
And they stay active for 5-6 months up to a whole year or more if you're lucky.

Other than that... LycaMobile seem to work great with Google,eBay and many others (£10 initial top up without a plan required though) and they stay active for up to 2 years.

Used to be the case but that changed several months ago. EE PAYG does require a minimum £5 top up to be able to receive sms.

I forgot this was relating to Ebay.

EE will still work fine to receive calls without adding any credit.

Ok, I cannot do that as I am in another country presently and I would need credit to receive the call.

Do you know if it's possible to receive the call in one of their free roaming countries?

Receiving a call depends on the sim provider providing roaming abilities I would think - costlier for sure but many seem to do so these days.

Vodaphone, it's free no need to top-up.

Use this link to get a bunch of them free of charge:

Hope that helps.
