Default Was using my dads ebay account to sell on but he passed away.

Its a individual account with his ssn hooked. Does anyone know if possible to try and change to my information? Or upgrade to business account and use ein?

Yes you can change. if asked biometric then i hope you can do it. But at once. if address diffrent then after one update wait few days then change another one. don't change all at once.

Upgrading might be the better option with EIN - changing personal info like ssn feels like heavy security flags

So you think upgrading to business would be best?

"sole proprietor or owner" option wants ssn/itin.

So i would choose "Single-member LLC (Limited Liability Company)" that one looks like it wants ein.

I assume i should make a llc before i do the upgrade. But i had searched google and it says that since is ssn was already hooked it will most likely still send a 1099 to the ssn?

Also for the information I would keep the same email, phone, address, last name.

Just change first name, date of birth, and ssn?

Changing first name, dob, and ssn are big time changes...I can't see it as a good move to avoid security flags.

Yes, likely to still send 1099 to the ssn.

The llc/ein seems to be the better route - I would think that the 1099 would be issued to the ein though...perhaps other US members can comment? I don't have own experience with this.

When did your father pass away?
Are you the only heir of his estate?
Has his estate settled all the debt and obligation, including you know who?

I wouldn't change the info on the account if I were you.

I'd just keep it to not trigger any "hacking" flags

Even if you change to an EIN, the shareholder receives the 1099. Now, whether eBay matches just to EIN or stakeholders is the question. Essentially, JUST adding a new EIN won't help you at this point. If you want the taxes reported properly, you will need to update the SSN stakeholder information.

My gut tells me eBay matches the stakeholder and account holder due to IRS rules. But all you can do at this point is try.

In very rare instances—provided you can demonstrate that the account constitutes a core asset of a family business and possess complete legal documentation regarding succession—you may attempt to request a manual review through eBay Customer Support. Some users suggest contacting higher-level customer service representatives via the eBay for Business Facebook page for a more in-depth consultation.
