Question Live KYC being slowly implemented.

Anyone else that's creating accounts noticing how on co.uk they are slowly implementing the Live KYC verify your account's identity?

I've got a few accounts here and there that are only giving me the option to do the Live KYC, no option to upload at all.

If they implement this cr*p we'll need to step our game up big time

Used to be fairly common to offer young/broke people $50 or whatever to have them setup a seller account with their info.

No doubt this kind of verification will be mandatory for all registrations soon. Basic corporate risk aversion, blah blah blah. Buy an ID?

Surprised they didn't implement it for all new accounts years ago to be honest.

i got hit with the kyc live option for one of my new accounts, however, there was an option to cancel and not proceed with it and send a bank statement instead which would take 3-4 days to verify...as opposed to the instant route a live check would have provided.

so atleast they give the option to not have to go down the route of a live video and selfie...

ill wait and see if my statement did the trick in 3-4 days.... it would be interesting to kow if this bank statement route would be used for bank verification as well.. atleast the savers accounts can get back to motion again

Yeah I need to submit bank statements for a couple of accounts as microdeposit option is not available. Haven't submitted them yet. Let us know how you get on.

Interesting. Do you think PayPal is gradually rolling this out to everyone, or is Live KYC only being triggered on certain accounts based on risk?

I imagine PayPal would have to weigh up the cost/benefit — better identity verification and risk control versus the extra friction and potentially losing legitimate sign-ups because people don’t want to go through Live KYC.

Also wondering how widespread this is outside the UK. If they eventually make it mandatory for every new account, that would be a pretty significant change from the old verification process.
