Default eBay asking me to identify another eBay member in my household!!??

Dear All,
I've changed DSL IP (by turning it off and on), created new Windows XP user account, and when I tried to list item with a new eBay account, eBay says I am logging in from a computer that they are not familiar with and ask me to identify another eBay member in my household.

How did eBay know about it? I think I followed the steps carefully in eBay Stealth.. I thought eBay cannot track my computer's Mac address, can they?

Thanks for the helps.

Did you change your ip and make a new user account before you created the ebay account or after?

You need to give more details, to get help. You must have deleted cookies, flash cookies for ebay to need to verify you.. That's why I asked when you created the user account...

Did you use new info? Or suspended info?

Yes I have deleted cookies and flash cookies, Sorry for not being clear. My issue is not about eBay trying to verify me, but about how eBay knows there is another eBay user in the same household when I have delete all traces before logging into this new account.

and I used new info.

If you used new info and a new user account, then someone else in your family must have logged on, on that computer on the same user account.

no that's not the case. I am the only person using this computer, and that user account is used specific for that ebay ID.

DO NOT delete cookies and flash objects from the user account you are using for that eBay account. There is no need to do so.

Otherwise eBay will not be able to recognize you, which seems to be your problem.

It was not an email. I tried to list the first item and that message shows up. It requires me to enter another eBay ID in the same household before I can continue with the usual phone vitrifaction.

As I said, my concern is NOT about eBay asking for my identification but on HOW does ebay know (or think) there are other eBay IDs under the same household when I use new IP, new user account, etc.

Something is screwed up. You better get Auctiva or Inkfrog just to be safe as I have about 40 aging accounts and never once had this problem.

I been dealt with this problem couple of times.Few things I known are:

If ebay ask you for another ID in your household.Yes there is one for sure.Wether you remember it or not, your ebay cookie/IP histroy might already recorded another ID related to your current one.

It just asystem automatic gernerated checking step when you deleted your cookie or changed computer account.so don't too worry. If you can find another user ID just put it in.They already linked them in their system so you don't have to hide anything to them anymore. If it not a suspended or high risk account then don't worry about it..I have done this before. The related ID even suspended after months and the other one still fine for nearly a year after..I don't know why but you can feel this ebay checking step is not that dangerious..

Or if you have no choise.just use live help.As long as your email works, they will ask couple of security questions and then send you an email code.Open the email and tell them the code they will add your computer in the system manually.I tried twice as well all worked.I guess sometimes they might want a phone call but you can tell them it not available and you away from home ETC...

Maybe it is the address you used?

Ebay could be matching it up with another user.

Or it could quite simply be a glitch.

If you have done what you said it isn't based on info on your computer. Therefore is likely based on your registration info.

Did you check you actually got a new IP after resetting your router?

Tell them you don't know of another member in your household with a ebay account. Then tell them next question please.

They did this to me one time when I was at a warehouse with shared internet....they asked me like 3-4 times via live help back to back each time slightly different wording....are you sure you don't have anyone else in your household with an ebay account.

I told them "NO NO NO NO NO NO NO" just like that it was like "live help you get interrogated".

On another note like posted above QUIT using the the same windows user account for multiple ebay accounts....cause when you clear everything it makes you look suspicious...its a proven fact ebay and paypal even admit it. They want history....so give them history but keep them separate. If you don't feel like using separate windows users (or mac user names) enjoy getting hassled every time and creating new accounts.
