 Rosetta Stone & what I did
I got a cease and desist letter today to from a Rosetta Stone lawyer. On craiglist I had a Rosetta Stone on and they must be watching real close. I responded to the email and said I didnt know it was illegal to sell Rosetta Stone and because I have seen people on efag selling them. Then I saved the sent letter to my drafts, in case I need prove that I responded, if worse comes to worse. They cant prove I have sold anything witch I didnt, and I took the ad off craigslist right away. The letter looked pretty legit, I looked up the number and other things and I think it is legal. There are cases I have read about that the same thing has happened to them and they call and harass you and threaten you for $1000 to $3000 to settle or they will persue futher and threaten you with the 5 years in prison for first offense, and $1,000,000 I would think it would be illegal for someone to just flaunt my ss number in the email sent to me. And I thought that was highly illegal for anyone to have that information and display it even if I did give it to Rosetta's (As I did not give it to paypal, ebay, craigslist or any other site let alone rosetta.)
Alot of lawers online said their scare tactics and not to pay anything until you get a certified letter with a court case, and then they negotiate a price that is what most legit lawyer's do they said. But usually they need prove that you have sold something. I think paypal might give out information as well, no more money orders anymore and they are probably working hand and hand with software giants and others giving out information behind are backs.
In 2008 the girlfriend and boyfriend got sued by Microsoft. They were selling illegal copies of office 2007, adobe 3 , and rosetta. They were downloading them from torants and making their own disks. They got a cease and desist, and he moved and kept selling and they linked them both sending email to each other. Had to go to court, and they had information on all the paypal transactions, email transactions and the dollar amount street value of like a half a million. The courts got them for selling over I think it was over 10 illegals copies in a 180 day period. They got endicted for up to no more then 5 years in prison and a big dollar amount, that they didnt come close selling in real life. Long story short, Microsoft and Rosetta Stone dont mess around and if they want to press things if they think your selling high volume, they will make your life miserable and get the information, wether it is on your computer or not.
