The amounts are the same.
I did just that and the package was seized. The seller sent a second package that I had sent to an alternate address with a different name. I asked if it was necessary to purchase the insurance again and they said that they will only offer it once. The second package was also seized. I asked for my $500 back and would let them keep the $30 for insurance and they countered me $300. I countered back $400, they agreed and I got it back.
I didn't expect them to eat the whole thing (as a seller here in the states I can appreciate their predicament) and I didn't know what would happen if I waited for the DHGate process to run its course, dispute with PP or the CC that was used. Because the item had to be re-shipped once, I was getting close to that 45-day mark and didn't want to lose it all.
I think all the insurance is is the seller charging 5% and hoping that no more than 10% of their shipments get confiscated...given a profit margin they probably break even on the shipments that get seized.
I had shipments from a seller I used earlier that didn't offer it get seized and he resent 80% of the original order which was also okay with me.
We are dealing in "risky" items and some loss is to be expected even though we don't like it...consider it the cost of doing business.
