Executive Membership

I just want to make a quick suggestion in regards to becoming an Executive member. It seems like there are a lot of old school execs, but not very many people have been "promoted" recently..

My suggestion is to have a monthly raffle to promote 1 or maybe a couple members. Maybe even quarterly if monthly is too much. The admins and mods could decide on who they feel is eligible for the drawing so that not just anyone with 250+ posts would be getting promoted. Then just pick a name from a hat or something..

What do you think?

Personally, I'd prefer to be asked (or however it currently works) rather than winning a prize draw.

Being asked means that the established members of the forum value your input and for me that would mean something.

Don't get me wrong, if I won VIP membership by opening a Xmas cracker I wouldn't turn it down. :D

I completely agree. I just think that it has become pretty exclusive.. Maybe I just don't notice people's usernames going red...

And believe me, that is definitely not how it works. (picking a name from a hat)

The 250+ posts just means that you will be considered. Then from that list we (Admin & Mods) will pick between 15-20 of the best candidates to be voted in by the Executive members. Usually the top 7 members with the most votes will become Executives.

Many things are considered. But mostly what we are looking for is knowledge, pro-activeness on the forum, willingness to help other members, and most of all: attitude.

It is a huge undertaking for the Admin and Mods. because we usually go back and read every post and thread created by the candidates. What we don't want to see is what we call "Post Count Garbage or Fluff". That is where members post just to get their ratio up. (we know who you are)

But I do like that "Name-from-the Hat" idea or maybe a Lottery? That would be so much easier.

I'm sure aspkin or one of mods could make a quick 'pick a name from the hat' php script. :D

I think that is a very solid way to do it. As I have seen a similar method at another forum with over 2 Million Users. So selecting candidates should not be hard here.

You just have to help around when you can, be patient, and get to know the other people here.

Executive membership has not been on the table for many varied reasons.
