Re: EIN with fictitious name
If your LLC is named John Smith, LLC you would need to let Amazon know that it is a business, complete with the LLC at the end of the name. If you are using an EIN, the IRS matches on the name of the business. You cannot register John Smith LLC and then use an EIN in place of the SSN when filling out Amazon's forms.
Another thing to be aware of is that it takes about 2 weeks from registration for the IRS to update the match file. So, if you register it and give it to Amazon immediately, it may very well come back as "no match".
Lastly, when filling out Amazon's forms, you MUST enter the business name EXACTLY as show in the IRS records. "John Smith LLC" is NOT the same thing as "John R Smith LLC".
