Default Changes to eBay UK

- Increasing the threshold where sellers are currently required to provide a signature confirmation proving delivery from £150 to £750.


- When sellers choose not to engage with the eBay Buyer Protection process on an item not as described case we may seek to carry out a reimbursement from you without requiring a return by the buyer.

- In limited situations we reserve the right to extend the period that buyers are eligible and sellers are responsible for resolving cases eg. national emergency, national holidays and labour strikes. When applicable this will be communicated via the announcements section of our site.

Important points are in bold.

Personally for anything over £100 I would still get a signature.

Most importantly if you have an item not as described case (which are now opened when a buyers sends a message saying the item is not as described) you sellers have got to respond, or they will loose the item and a refund will be given. Daft not to respond anyway

Seems like August and September some major changes are going on in eBay UK with this and all the other changes due to come into effect soon.

These changes are effective for all new stealths created from today onwards, and all existing accounts from 23/09 onwards. (09/23 for the Americans)

Glitches are annoying on PP, but a lot of the EB changes suit me at least very well. Hopefully they suit other people just as well

Value of my items on my main accounts means they all go with signature confirmation.

For some buyers I do that for a £70 value and other factors ( usual case by case check)

Deciding not to reply to a case is not professional in my book. Usually those types end up here complaining.

Few perks from eBay. Time to milk them more

Agree on the case by case basis being very important. Looking at previous feedback left for other people is always my biggest decision maker.

Maybe the new rules will spur them onto actually replying.

Looking at feedback left is a great underused strategy IMO!

Once I spotted a buyer leaving negatives against other sellers for the same or similar products who recently brought from me (raised a case etc). Obviously fearing that this guy would do the same for me because he was a competitor trying to dirt his competition or just being a complete troll, I contacted a few sellers about the buyer who got left negs by this guy and formed a strategy with them.

Story short the outcome is he gets banned and the negatives removed from the other seller accounts and mine stays squeaky clean with the case ruling in my favour.

Sometimes the friend of your enemy can be your friend....or something like that

I actually communicate with a couple of my rival sellers on and off, and have done witha few for years. I also also now import on behalf of a rival under the agreement that he sellers one colour and I sell another colours. Means our buying power is much greater and we get the items we sell for a much better rate

Rivals are not always the competition (if that makes sense )

Nice way to use group tactics to get a deadbeat buyer tossed by the system. I did similar for a certain buyer few years back when I was selling comics and other sellers were involved.

I had this problem this week, negative feedback left by customer, checked his other feedback left to sellers and it was the same, reported it to eBay... I'll wait and see what happens, don`t think it will be removed

Going back to main topic, I'm not sure if this is part of the new changes but I dont recall reading bout them...

One of my accounts which has been improving over time (I got some low dispatch DSRs thanks to a bulk load of missing mails late last year) has suddenly gone to Top Rated status!

I'm not sure why as the required account DSR for top rated is 0.5% and the account for 12 month is currently 1%. Did notice its also giving stats for a 3 months rather than 12. Does this mean that in theory you only need a clean 3 month DSR history to be a Top Rated seller now?

It gives data for 12 months or 3 months depending on your sales volume

You are also permitted a certain number of low DSR ratings, or a % of low. eBay takes which ever is more favourable.

For example, say you have 100 feedback, 1 low DSR.

Your % would be 1%, but your count would be 1.

A 1 count is what eBay takes into consideration. You are allowed upto 2 low DSR in any category generally.

A low DSR is a 1 or 2 rating in any particular category.

its probably best to use recorded delivery at the very least,this can be tracked and you will have some proof of delivery,most couriers have a signed for option for an extra couple of pounds or so as well

New Seller PayPal holds - No longer a blanket 21 days

Seller prints tracking label on eBay, or uses another carrier that provides tracking information, then manually enters postage tracking information on eBay - Funds held for estimated delivery date + 3 days


Seller indicates when the item has been dispatched in My eBay - Funds heldfor estimated delivery date + 7 days


Seller doesn't upload any information or mark item as dispatched - Funds held for 21 days


Buyer opens a case against the seller - Funds held until the case has been closed

Will be interesting to see how well this is stuck to. Under the old system funds were meant to be released automatically if + feedback was left by buyer, but this never happened (unless you rang PP)

90 days have passed since your first successful eBay sale.
You’ve completed more than 25 transactions on the site.
You’ve generated more than £165 in total sales.
Your seller status is Standard or above.
If your account has been suspended, 90 days have passed since your account has been reinstated.

Well the bulk mail that went missing gave me a total of 12....yes count em 12 low DSR in dispatch! All the others are 0 since I do keep this account in good standing. They were sent recorded as well! Massive c**k up at RMs end and I never was able to recover the stock. Thing is since then I have obviously started to repair the damage as kept to the same policy send on time etc etc and slowly the account went from below standard to above average but couldn't understand why still it went to Top Rated as the 12 month overview still should not of let me qualified due to the 12 count DSR and 1% stat total (have 1,000 feedback now).

Anyways its not like I'm complaining far from it! Its put me in good stead for this years build up to xmas but it was making me curious as to why.
