VMWare for the First Time: Any advice?
 

Just wondering who has experience with VMWare Workstation and has any basic advice. Any do's and dont's?

I would recommend using different Operating Systems to distinguish your accounts, for your net network use a Bridged Connection.

To bridge the connection your going to need a external network card. I wasted a good amount of time on figuring that one out... Also, make sure you have your OS files where you want them (hard drive or external hard drive) before you start setting up your stealth accounts. I had problems after I moved my virtual machines from my hard drive to and external hard drive, they didn't want to act right and I had delete and start over. I'd recommend getting familiar with the set up before you start making account. And if your going to do it you might as well do it right the first time and use pairs of operating systems running different browsers. (as MM78 suggested). (Ubuntu/fire fox - Ubuntu/chrome - Windows 7/fire fox - Windows 7/chrome - ect ect...

You should first create a test machine, so you can test wich settings are the best for you, Ram and hdd size, how to do with internet connection because it's different depending on what you use to obtain it : vpn, shared connection, dongle
But you will see, it's very easy to use

All my VMWares are Bridged and I don't have an external network card....seems odd it would not work for you.

Windows XP flies in VM, that is if you have the hardware for it.

I use a flashed Verizon phone to connect for IP's. The only way I found to get my bridged connection to work was to get a wireless USB adapter. I got the ALFA AWUS051NH v.2 For what ever reason I couldn't get the bridged connection to connect to the internet using the wireless card built in the laptop, it would show being connect to the network card though. I thought maybe it had something to do with duplicate local ip's on the network or mac address or something. If i remember right I think i was able to change the local ip and the mac. or maybe it was one or the other, anyway I still couldn't get it to work without the USB adapter and I gave up.

I would like to know how to not have to use the adapter. Every time I start up a VM I have to unplug & plug back in the USB adapter to get the VM to recognize the adapters connected.

You didn't mention this originally, yes....to connect to a Mifi you do need a Wifi adapter.

I'm just starting to setup my VMware now. I'll be using a 24vc static IP address vpn.

Completely new to this.

My question. Would you recommend that I not connect VMware to my current internet connection at all? As it's this connection that's linked to my suspended account. I imagine that I would have to connect to the internet through my current connection in order to setup the static IP. Or do I download the static IP software and load it to my virtual machine and install everything offline? (if that's even possible)

I used it without any issues. I recommend that you use it on public wifi.

So with a VMWare you still need a connection that connects to the internet....SO, I would recommend the following:
1. Install your VMWare
2. Set the Internet Connection on the VMWare to "Bridged"
3. Install your 24VC software inside the VMWare Operating System
4. Get online

Thanks for the help. I've installed Window XP on my VMWare. Where would I find the internet connection option. I'm assuming this is different to the one in XP? The internet connection folder in XP I can see a LAN connection icon. I believe my host OS is automatically bridging the connection, because it shows connection, and there's nothing to bridge to. Thanks!

Check the icons on the bottom right of the VMware machine. Mess around with everything so you get familiar with the environment. The network connection can be found in the tray of icons. Its very straight forward once you get the hang of it :yar:

Basically, your VMWare OS is making a bridged connection to your real OS Internet connection.

If you open a browser inside the VMWare and check your IP you will see that your IP is exactly the same as your Regular Computer. This is totally fine, this means you can connect to the actual internet, now just fire up your VPN Software or whatever it is and try checking your IP again.

This is good information!

Also, make sure the VPN software you setup is on the actual virtual machine, and not the host computer.

That way you can setup firewall settings as well to drop the internet connection (on the VMware), if your VPN connection disconnects.

hi bro,I have a dynamic address in my home, every time I reboot the router, ip changes, can I install the VMWare OS and register a new provider?

No, my provider The same, but this provider has a dynamic IP address, it always changes after rebooting my modem

So what do you mean "register a new Provider"?

Would separate users do or a smart phone with a new SIM be ok for separate AMZ buyers accounts?

Or chrome portable?
