**New 2016** Amazon Seller Account Requirements
 

If you've tried creating a UK Amazon in the last month or so, chances are you ran into the new style sign up page which can now validate UTR numbers. US Amazon accounts do not experience this.

However, every now and then you can still randomly run into the old sign up page that won't validate the UTR number.

If you DO run into the new style sign up page, and decide to abandon it, you'll need a brand new setup / brand new IP as if you already had an existing Amazon account. You cannot simply use the same IP / browser setup and try signing up on another account to avoid the new style sign up page or you will get automatically linked / suspended / closed.

Just a heads up to all you UK folks -- USA accounts are not affected by this new change.

Can it actually validate the UTR is real, or just that the algorithm is right?

Using ⊗⊗⊗⊗ tax IDs for any marketplace seems like a bad long term strategy. At any point in time Amazon can decide to verify all tax information they have on file for all sellers. I'm sure the IRS would assist them in finding out who gave ⊗⊗⊗⊗ tax information so they can go after those people for not paying taxes.

Hey - you will have to start completely new if you stumble upon this page on Amazon

Alternatively i think you can get a valid UTR number if you order one via fiverr - just search for UTR number in the search engine - got one via there which worked!

Yes as soon as you input the name/email/pass and you run into the new style seller sign up page, you'll need to abandon the setup to access the account / get a new IP address.

Definitely avoid ordering a UTR number from Fiverr, you have no idea if it actually belongs to someone (which you don't want to do) or it's been already used on amazon (which you don't want to do).

So whats the work around the utr now for opening uk amazon stealth accounts?
Figuring out the algorithm of utr? Any Other ways?

I doubt they are validating anything directly with HMRC. Amazon and tax authorities don't exactly have good relationships, lol.

The UTR is not some randomly generated number. There is an algorithm that calculates it (which I would put money on that Amazon is using). If you know the algorithm then it should be an easy step to bypass.

Update as of December 4, 2016

All UK Amazon accounts now require a validated UTR number before registration. You can no longer access the old seller registration form that does not require it. To get yourself a valid UTR number, do a little research, search google and you will have a solution.

Just be careful which websites you take your information from. A couple of them are posting incorrect information. ;)

Don't ever assume that something posted on a website is definitely correct. Check any formula you use with real UTRs that are known to be valid.

There are a few websites about that guide on how to generate a valid UTR. The problem is that they each generate a different UTR and only 1 can be correct so it really is vital as ebayorbust says to triple check these things
