Question about routers
 

I just want to make sure I understand modems and routers as it pertains to Amazon.

I have a centurylink modem. I want to add a separate router to the modem. (old modem was used to connect to previous account). If I add a new router to the modem can I safely use this internet connection. Reading ghost it appears that Amazon only detects one device past the computer which would be the new router. If it goes one more step it will find the modem that links the two accounts.

I have come this far, I dont want to screw it up if it is able to connect the two. Currently I am using a new cell phone hotspot to connect but its ripping through my data plan.

Another question: I used the old connection to load the software (before ever setting up an Amazon account). Will Amazon detect old wifi connections? I will not ever be connecting to it again.

If you just hook up a different router to the same modem you're already using, you will have the same public facing IP as before since it's your modem that fetches your WAN (public) IP address.
