Learning your competition

So here's a little trick that I use to find out what kind of competition I am up against for items I sell. Price battles happen quite often, but you don't want to be price battling with someone who wants to quick sale 1 item then get burned for some good profit when theirs sells quickly. Add their item to your cart then click on Edit Cart. Under the quantity, put it as 100 and then update your cart. It will tell you exactly how many of the item the seller has available.

Hope this helps!

never thought about that method....but if your selling the same item as another, and there's a price war and he only has 1 or a few, i rather just let them sell out, and then i can raise my price./

yeah, this is the technique for finding out how many, otherwise you would normally assume they have more than one to sell

Thank you~

If it is books you can put down "Free first class shipping" to compete with them if you don't mind paying a few dollars more. That's what I do, then they don't get that indicator in their inventory you dropped the price.

Or you can add free expedited shipping included instead and put a few bucks as a refund if they actually pay extra for expedited.

I am under review, had about 20% feedback and just tried to get more feedback at Amazon's suggestion so now I am at 25%. Meaning 1 out of 4 customers left me feedback. I believe it's because everyone except one person (too costly and I didn't ask them for feedback) got their order earlier than expected. But what works for one person may not work for another :nerd:

Yes this is a good method, I personally have used it a lot. The way I do it though is I use this site below:

The Mall of Malls: The Greatest Mall on Earth

It's a amazon template site just type the sku of the item in search pick the seller you want add to the cart on that site and just put a high quantity and it will tell you how many they have. Reason I do it this way instead of directly on amazon is just because I don't want to mess up and add a item to my real cart and forget about it and check out that item next time I place a order.

I do this all the time on amazon... My fav thing to do actually..

Yeah it can be a way. However, I for example just put like 2-3 items in and when it sells I just put more or update it right there. For some reason I don't want to put a big quantity.

When I want to find out how many items a competitor has, I go to their storefront and click on the item from there. For some reason doing it that way will show you (on the product page, underneath the title) how many they have - ie, something like, "Only 3 left." If they have a substantial number (I don't know what the cutoff is), it will simply say "SellerX carries this item."
