Well, I learn most of what I know about computers and IT from my dad who is a computer engineer/IT specialist :P. Basically, from what I know so far (or what I think I know), since VMware is an ENTIRELY new machine running on your system, it gets its own set of everything a computer needs. If you look at the properties of each Virtual machine you will see that you can edit the network settings on each one. If you decide that you want it to connect to the network independently and not through your host system, it generates its own virtual network adapter that you can actually see in your network preferences on the host computer.
So while you are sitting on your base computer logging on through its network adapter on your mobo, your virtual machine is also logging on through its own virtual network adapter that has its own unique MAC address.
