Can Buyer leave negative feedback?

On Amazon lets say a buyer purchases and item and it is not in stock, can they leave neg feedback though their credit card was not charged?

Just curious...

I have noticed that when I buy something and the seller cancels the order, I don't get the option to leave feedback.

I have seen lots of feedback from buyers who say their order was canceled so I'm not too sure how it works.

Thanks. I've read conflicting information.

Specifically....I've had two orders I couldn't fill so I just left them "pending" forever until it dropped off my screen after 30 days or so. I've never been late in shipping so that's the only metric it affects

I hoped it would prevent them from being able to leave feedback if I never cancelled the order. Also if there is ever a time a buyer purchases from me who has alot of neg feedback, I may just email them telling them it is out of stock with an apology essentially choosing not to sell it to them weighing the risk

Found the answer

I am pretty sure Buyers are not able to neg you if the order still shows as Pending then finally Amazon is forced to cancel it. Hence why Amazon sends the many threats that they will cancel an order by such and such date if you do not take action. Then they keep moving up the date....

Link doesn't seem to work so here it is-

Can buyers leave feedback on cancelled (will not ship) orders?

Yes, buyers can leave feedback on cancelled orders. Though cancelled orders will no longer be visible on their order history page, buyers can still access cancelled orders from the Leave Seller Feedback page in their account.

When buyers place orders on Amazon.com, they have confidence that the orders will be fulfilled. It is important to make sure you are only offering items you are able to fulfill on time.

Buyers are not able to leave feedback on orders Amazon cancels, for example, when the buyer's credit card is invalid. We do not send these orders to you and we therefore do not hold you responsible for the buyer experience.

Melissa, I'm 99% sure they can not leave feedback if the order was never processed ( aka if Amazon cancels it ).

If you cancelled the order, then they will be able to leave feedback after a few days only ( aprox. 72 hours )

But if Amazon cancels it themselves, won't they penalize your performance stats for failing to fulfill the order?

Red X 09-06-2011 03:49 PM

This has happened to me before. A buyer left negative feedback stating not to sell items if they were not In stock, and my reply to the buyer was to never purchase from me again............... I still can sell as much as I want till this day, and limits increase occasionally

You mean customer metrics? it is the software that manages the metrics

As I said, only the ship rate is affected and I am never late in shipping so the metrics were still in the very good range

My account suffered no reprisals and I've done this twice so far in 13 months

did you cancel their order?

I had a customer tell me twice to cancel their order but I just replied twice it was cancelled which is why his CC was not charged, to ignore the order and it will fall off after 30-40 days

Red X 09-07-2011 07:32 AM

I canceled their order within 5 minutes of the buyer paying for the item. Fast forward to at least a week later, maybe even longer than that, the buyer leaves negative feedback, I was upset about it, so I said something I shouldn't have said, but my account Is still up and running, so yeah lol. This is my REAL amazon account btw.

oh. glad it's still up and running
