Hello and Amazon has my 50k.. :'(

Hoping they give it back after the 90 days like they say they will..

Anyway, I'm working on setting up a new account..

Stuck on the part where we need a new EIN because the IRS wants my SSN and name on my tax records before we get it.. Isn't Amazon going to be able to see that info?

Amazon can't see anything but the EIN info; they can only confirm that the info you give them matches that from the IRS. Get an accountant and get started on some kind of LLC.

It looks like on the IRS's website for obtaining an EIN, that I have to give the IRS my real name. So can Amazon see my real name by having that EIN number?

I have heard from some that you can just use a DBA for obtaining the EIN, that you don't need to use your real name.. but looking at the online application, this doesn't seem to be the case.

hXXps://sa1.www4.irs.gov/modiein/individual/index.jsp
**Begin Application**
(I altered the link b/c I'm not sure forum rules allow it).

Btw, I WILL eventually go the LLC route.. but from what I hear, this takes a solid month to complete. I really need to get back to selling before that. Also this is my first time going stealth and I would prefer to not pay for an LLC only to accidentally screw something up and have to start the process over again. Thanks for any additional help anyone can provide regarding the EIN info.

Amazon can only see the information you give them. The IRS, by law, can only verify that information, they cannot correct it or expand upon it.

Thank you for confirming. But if that is the case why does everyone advocate getting a DBA in the first place?

It sounds like you just need to give Amazon a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ name, new address/phone/bank and EIN number. The rest is just making sure your IP and computer don't eff anything up. Am I missing something? Is the DBA mainly for opening the bank account without your name on it? Thanks again for any help anyone can provide on this :-)

Actually, does Amazon attempt to verify the info given on your account with the EIN number? IRS would say, it's incorrect if the name is bogus.. but then what?

Yes, the response would be "NO MATCH". Then Amazon would contact you to correct the information.

Do it correctly in the first place.

Dont take chances and rush back.

It's more practical to do as much as you can correctly from the start rather than having to keep on starting again. :peace:

Okay, I understand what you guys are saying now. So then, just to be clear, I have to use my real name during the creation of the Amazon account because my EIN information should match up in case Amazon goes to verify it with the IRS.. AND it is okay to use my name even though I was banned with my name on the last account? It seems like this would be a clear link between the old and new account.

Sorry guys, I am just confused about this one thing and it's been stopping my progress lately. I keep hearing on one side, "don't use your real name, are you stupid?" and at the same time, "you must use your real name because Amazon may boot you if your EIN number doesn't match your Amazon info."

For now, please assume that I can only register as a sole proprietorship at this time. I will do the corporation thing in a few months, but I will be relocating to another state soon and am waiting to do get incorporated after the move.

On a side note, I do plan on this being a good legit account. We're a legit business and just want to get back into the game for the long term.

Btw, I am registering my new DBA and EIN tomorrow in order to have my new Amazon account up and running by the end of the day. Again, any help before then is incredibly appreciated!! Thank you so much.
