Legit or competitor Email ????

Ok so i got this email today from someone called James Lloyd/MPAA -

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
We believe the products you are selling are not intended for sale in the United Kingdom and are counterfeit. There is an positive link between several accounts used on Amazon which have also been infringing IP rights.

Amazon accounts are being periodically removed, several of which involving convictions of the account holder. Please take this as your only warning to withdraw any counterfeit DVDs from Amazon and any other sales stream you may be using.

We will be purchasing from you in the next few days. If the DVD you are selling proves to be counterfeit, we will work with Amazon using your registered details, along with the authorities to stop further criminal activity.

Regards,

James Lloyd | MPAA | 200 White Plains Road 1st Floor | Tarrytown | NY 10591 |

(914) 333-8892
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does this seem legit or is it a copy/paste that others have had ??

I sell DVDs yes but they are legit region 2 from UK Wholesalers, should i just forget about this account as i dont want to be banned/deleted and lose my money ??, any suggestions ??

thanks

I don't sell on Amazon but was the message sent through Regular Email or within Amazon?

Have you googled his name?
Maybe try calling that number and ask for this James Lloyd.

Also, wouldn't you be contacted by European Agency? I'm not quit sure on that one.

The highlighted words are grammatically wrong. Would a genuine enforcement notice be that wrong? I cannot say but it is a point to consider

It was through Amazon, I am in the UK and according to their address they are in New York USA, i don't fancy phoning another country tbh, either way they could have used a real address pretending to be them.

If the MPAA was coming after you and was going to make a purchase from you, they wouldn't warn you beforehand. They would just do it and you would hear from them AFTER they made the purchase and you lost your Amazon account.

I should also think the MPAA has spell checking software and employs people who know how to construct a sentence.

Just as a matter of interest, to let you know it is likely phony.

Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) : Related organisations

On the above site, there are addresses of different organisations.

Totally probable that some competitor searched t'internet. Found the address & made up the message.

Still they should not use monkeys for this work :smash:

The way I look at things like this. If the IP owner wants your stuff removed they will contact amazon directly an amazon will do so. There will be no emails or anything else like that. You will simply wake up with a suspended/deleted account or a policy violation.

tis69 08-26-2012 02:42 AM

Thanks everyone, once again most helpful indeed.

LoopHole 08-26-2012 03:52 AM

LOL that message sounded like a 10th grader wrote it.

Gamefreak 08-26-2012 04:47 AM

I recieved one today from some idiot who is selling in a category that was created by amazon ( listing itself ) told me I was violating his rights by selling the genuine item. Told him go away and go bother some kid or someone who doesnt know anything about amazon...

tis69 08-26-2012 05:11 AM

Now just received this email -

Greetings from Amazon.

We are writing to inform you that we have cancelled this listing:

We took this action because it has been alleged that the item may be counterfeit and therefore in violation of our Participation Agreement which prohibits the sale of items that infringe another party's copyright, patent, trademark, design right, database right, or other intellectual property or other proprietary right. (see section 4.8 of the Participation Agreement for further details).

Unless we hear from you, providing details of the action taken to resolve this matter and any further information about the item you have sold, you must not relist the item(s).

We must warn you that should we receive further allegations of counterfeit items in violation of our Participation Agreement we will remove your Amazon.co.uk selling privileges.

Thank you for your cooperation and your interest in Amazon.co.uk

Regards,

Seller Performance Team
Amazon.co.uk

GrannyT 08-26-2012 05:26 AM

I think you need to become pro-active at this stage and contact Amazon
