Did you initiate the chat?
Asking for your name, address phone number is within their T&S. Asking by phone for bank details crosses the line of privacy. |

I used to work at a bank and that is how people get scammed. There is a difference between verify the last four digits of an account and give me your whole number.

They did not ask for the bank account - they asked for bank's phone number - still an odd move but I have had this happen with Az before. No contact with my bank but I wonder why the rep had asked this - perhaps some odd thinking on Az part.
What else did the rep say?

i mean its obvious they asking it for verification purposes, even if they do nothing and keep your money, it would be stupid to ask such thing. BTW when i call they asking phone number on the back of my CARD
I dont know what info amazon able to collect
but
simple credit card issuer bank mismatch may grant you ignore

What else did the rep say? | Re-read the OP. Read the title of the thread.
They asked for the bank's phone number to verify information
Until the OP posts again, there is an inference that amazon were not acting in a correct manner.
It's imperative to have more info. |

| Just for clarification purposes - I do have accounts that keep track of ANY inquiry about the account - comes with an account manager to boot

What if a teller answers and not an account manager?

If a teller answers - for these few bank accounts to which I am referring (might be my special status on these by the way) - and decides to open up the account, there is an alert that comes up for access my bank account. It's just a professional designation on my account.

What if a teller answers and not an account manager? | Notification goes to the account holder.
This is actually a practice not specific to Canada.
Exists in Australia, New Zealand. There is also a variation with some US banks.
Security alerts may be attached to accounts.
EG, US Bank allows them via email.
BoA has several measures. SafePass® is one to consider.
Mine are both email and cell phone notification as well as a phone call.
rsot appears to have much the same in place.
It's effective because of rotten paypal, for starters.
It's most effective because it prevents my funds being mishandled. I am not liable for any funds being stolen.

It's imperative to have more info. | Hi, sorry for taking so long to respond,
I tried to login to an account and found it was deleted the day before disbursement (of course) so I messaged amazon to see what happened and acted innocent. They said amazon specialists need to call my bank to confirm it was indeed me who was using this account, I refused and I was told I would be emailed....but of course I was never emailed

data protection act only allows yourself or if your incapable maybe a carer to confirm anything and even then you need to go through security questions ect

This is just typical AZ - stalling, no calls, no e-mails...doubt you will see any money without some legal involvement.

Banks will not give any information out, calling a bank and asking questions about a customer of theirs... = them telling the person calling to go fk off. i once accidentally billpayed moneybookers instead of western union. i called money bookers bank.. and they wouldn't even verify that moneybookers had an account! lol

Ideally, your bank should tell you calls may be received by companies asking about accounts. There are strict guidelines in place as to what they can do, what they can ask and the reason. They have to supply ID
It would not be my understanding that anyone other than the designated person within the company would have the right to seek your info. |
