IP Address on same subnet
 

If my stealth account IP address is on the same subnet as my banned account can Amazon detect this?

No they cannot. An ISP can reassign you any IP within their subnet range. As long as your external IP is different than your previous account - even by 1 digit.

For example...Comcast owns the 68.46.0.0/16 subnet range (among many others).

If you were banned on 68.46.1.1, but then you released/renewed your IP and were given 68.46.1.2...it is considered a completely different IP and this alone will not ban you.

Glad to get this idea cleared up - few other posts were discussing the last digit as being considered part of a `local network`and...hence...link would be possible

To further clarify...there are two types of IP addresses that everyone needs to be aware of...private IP vs. public IP.

Private IP

This would be your internal LAN. Basically, it's anything connected to your wifi router. All devices would have internal/private IP's such as...192.168.1.1 and so on. This IP is not seen by the outside world. (IPburger won't show this).

Public IP

It is sometimes referred to as your external IP or routable IP. This is how the rest of the world sees you. If you're ever downloading a song/movie on a torrent site (not that I condone this), this is the IP that people see you as. The example I used above...68.46.1.1 would be a public IP. This is the IP that ipburger would detect.


Getting back to the OP's original question of linking on the same subnet...

If the OP used another device on the 192.168.1.x subnet, then yes they will be linked because all devices on the 192.168.1.x subnet will share the same public IP. The key is to always check a service like ipburger.com to ensure your public IP has changed.


A good tool to keep track of your internal devices that I personally use is Cisco's Network Magic (the free version works well). It displays all of my devices on a convenient network map. I know all of my devices private IP's along w/ each of their MAC addresses - a good way to track MAC's for stealth use.
