Can you request an EIN under a business name online?
 

I've tried multiple times to register another LLC under and existing LLC that I already have and every time it tells me it can't process the request. I heard from someone that they think you may have to do that type of request by filling out the form and faxing/sending that in.

Anyone know if that is true? If not and I should be able to do it online.. any idea what I'm doing wrong that could cause this error?

You CAN NOT do it on the IRS website, to the best of my knowledge. I tried for hours and got the same error message every time. I think their intent is to make it harder for foreigners to set up shell companies in the USA without leaving their country.

I believe it was solefoodbk who was saying a while back they were able to register an EIN with an existing LLC (set up a parent company) by using legalzoom.

EDIT: Just noticed this is in the Amazon section. If you aren't talking about applying for an EIN, please disregard my post. :thumb:

Oops.. my bad. I didn't know it was going into just the Amazon forum. I am referring to the EIN.

Thanks so much.. at least I know to quit trying online! I'll do some more checking into it. The person who told me said she believes you simply have to fill out the paper form which asks the exact same questions the online site does and fax it in and it only delays things by a couple of days.. although you have to wait a couple of weeks to get something in the mail.

I just wasn't sure because she heard it second and third hand.
