My partner in China told me they need you to have a business to open a new USA amazon account.......?

maybe you are talking about a .com account, not a US account, right ?
I had this about 3 weeks ago, it was impossible to register for a personnal plan, only for business. I contacted amazon and they told me the first month for business plan was free and I can cancel it after registration to get a personnal plan.
I made another account since and I was able to register as personnal seller

I am not talking about VE (business account)

I am talking about just a normal professional seller account. We used to just register with credit card and maybe some personal information. Now amazon.com needs us to provide legit company information to register...

Sounds like they are referring to the tax interview.Tax interview has always been there,Amazon has just been switching around when they require it filled out.Before it was after a certain time period and sales,now under certain circumstances they want it upfront.
