AZ sms messaging

Does anyone know of an app I can put on my pay as you go phones to receive AZ's sms verification text message when I go to the U.S. (Hawaii) for 2 months a year. The current pay as you go cannot add roaming, will only work in Canada.

Have seen a few under a google search, but are not specific enough to know if it would work.

Thanks

SMS message for Two-Step Verification?

If so - you could buy a cheap phone and download an app called "Google Authenticator" which I use, that will generate the security code for you directly from the app using a Wifi connection (no roaming etc. required).

If you already have two-step setup, you can disable it from the advanced settings option if you no longer wish to use it

Otherwise google authenticator app works well. If you use it for multiple accounts make sure to always keep it offline.

Understand this but the question may have been worded wrong.
We are in Canada, therefore our cell accounts are Canadian. The cheap $10/month pay as you go do not allow for roaming when we are in the US.

Is there a way to get the SMS from AZ other than an active cell phone when in a different country.

I understand that you can disable the 2 step, but still not sure if I want to give AZ the OK on 4 accounts that are all on the same computer (usual stealth setup as they have been active for 1-4 years)
Thanks

Why not disable two-step when you are roaming?

Or get yourself an international sim that allows receiving text messages worldwide

Use google authenticator offline for your accounts, then keep a Canada prepaid phone as your back up #. You don't need the back up # unless you lose the authenticator

That is what I was looking at. Where my fear is, is in disabling the 2 step and AZ possibly catching that 1 computer is being used for 4 different accounts. Main concern is that this 2 step is giving them a new unique way to link accounts that hasn't been around yet (yes, this is paranoid mode).

If we have anyone that has done the 2 step for multiple accounts and disabled already, all through one computer, then there would lie the answer.

Thanks Elmo

I have personally disabled my stores two-step without any issues. I don't think its a problem. They just require you to enable it by June 30th but don't state its a requirement to keep active.

Awesome. Thanks Elmo.

As far as I have seen, you are the first to post that it has been done and no issues.

Thanks

Hello friend, as above said you can either disable the two-factor authentication which is a bit risky, or get an international sim card, or a virtual sim card. I personally use to receive sms for several purposes an online service - click here .

Don't use Google authenticator tho, as you will be in big trouble when you loose the phone/make an update and it deletes something mistakenly/etc

use some other alternative where you are able to make backups, there are plenty out there which allow you to export your OTP keys as a text file to have a backup.

on stealth i wouldn't want to loose the 2FA codes, as it will most likely mean full re-verification and a long phone call

what part do you mean with rubbish? once you have scanned the qr code with the g-auth and not copied the string to another backup location, it's gone and can not be viewed again.

you wouldn't guess how stupid of requests i get everyday, not from this forum, but in general, and these are also mostly smart people ;) if s/o doesn't know the risk, why should he prepare for the worst case? just wanted to inform about it as we have many people here asking trivial stuff like what browser to use..
you said it yourself.. "most of us".. and i agree with you :mod:

All of it.

the QR code is always available via Seller Central.

ok i am not familiar with how amazon handles it. :surrender:
but if they do it that way.. well thats pretty insecure for such a big company 0.o

what if you can't login again, that was what my concern was about. always make offsite backups, 1 backup.. is no backup
anyway... have a nice day :)
