Re: One authenticator app for multiple accounts?

Yes, some junk phone number like google voice for initial setup. People here will encourage you to keep that number as backup, "just in case the authenticator app is somehow destroyed".

But I have confidence, so I discard the number right after setting up 2-step. I use an app called "authy", which backs everything to cloud so I will NEVER lose access to all dynamic codes/

I'm new to Amazon Ghost, coming over from eBay. But, how does GV work? They are recycled numbers, so how can it be safe?

All numbers are technically recycled. Google voice just makes it easy by being able to manage your account from you laptop. You can get 2 google voice #s for 1 phone #

Right on. I know you'll fail eBay using GV. Just was surprised that it's recommended. But, if it works it works

Hey what happens if you lost your phone # and Google authenticator code? I used a phone number from some app but can't figure out the login anymore and don't know the code.

I want to disable 2 step and now I can't.

Unless you have your recovery key, then you're screwed. This is why websites tell you to write down a recovery key immediately after you've enabled 2FA to prevent situations like this from happening.

The most you can do is perhaps contact Google and see if anything can be done by them.

Use Authy -- a generic authenticator with cloud backup
