Amazon Began Charging REAL Money Upon registration
 

Previously, Amazon places a hold for around $1 on credit card when you create an account. It is a test charge, and never actually goes through.

Yesterday, I found this has changed. Amazon actually processed a REAL $0.01 payment. Luckily, I used a real credit card, so I passed that step without problem.

However, I am a bit concerned. I guess Amazon is up to something (i.e. a real charge, instead of a test pre-authorization charge, may enable Amazon to obtain additional personal info?)

And, any one knows when this new procedure started?

I've seen in the last couple months

Started around the time they started charging $39.99 for pro registration up front

I've also seen random charges around $1.20

Just make sure you have enough money on the card and you should be good

Are you saying there would have been a problem if you used a VCC and they charged it for $0.01 Cent?

Depends on how much balance is on VCC, and the strictness of AVS-matching that is implemented by your VCC company.

Most real cards in US do not use AVS.
