Like I said above, ALL images in Gmail messages are rehosted on Gmail servers. Regardless of what you do or click on, eBay will only see a Google IP because a Google proxy was the endpoint from eBay's point of view.
If Gmail (and other major email clients, I'm sure hotmail does it too) didn't do this, any random hacker could email you a message with an inline image which they've hosted themselves. As soon as you open the email and the image loads the hacker would have your IP address.
