What happens when you file a USPS lost package claim?
 

This is my first online claim, it says approved. Does this mean they will mail me a check? It says approved $100..How do I go about getting a refund for the postage? Is that possible? I paid like $30 for express shipping.

Yes you will get a check. Not sure about the shipping refund. Dispute it with your credit card?

Old thread. Hope you're still around OP.

You'll get a check in the mail. You have an option to appeal their decision on the website, which is what you'll need to do to get the postage refund. When making the claim always include everything you lost on the shipment, not just the value of the contents. I always include a screenshot of the stamps.com postage record with my claims (which shows the postage I paid), and they usually include that amount when they mail me a check.

Make sure your USPS account is in your name, or a CURRENT business name. They mailed me a check in the name of an old business name and the bank didn't wanna cash it. :(

I dont understand, if the insurance is for $100, and I get a check for $100, I need to go back to appeal for the additional shipping paid?

How else would you get it? You can't squeeze it out of that $100 check!

Yeah, pretty much.

I missed the part about the shipment being express. Since you shipped Priority Express (which is a guaranteed service) you should be able to get a refund for that separate from the insurance claim. But the last I checked, you have to go to your post office to do that. Can't get an Express refund on the website.
