Does the free $100 USPS insureance cover a claim for Item not Received?

Item is marked delivered but customer states they never received it. I believe I once read that insurance will cover those claims. Does the standard USPS $100 insurance cover these issues? or am I SOL?

eBay or Paypal seller protection will cover it, but not USPS insurance. They won't even let you make a claim if tracking shows delivery.

EDIT: My bad, didn't notice this was in "Amazon" at first. USPS will not cover this.

Do you have tracking on the package? Some proof of shipment to present to USPS?

Yes, delivery confirmation.

So then you can't even consider the $100 loss if you have confirmation - did you request USPS to provide proof of signature or delivery? They do electronic receipts last time I checked.

What do you mean I cant consider the lost with confirmation? I did not request signature confirmation.

Re: Does the free $100 USPS insureance cover a claim for Item not Received?

I had a case like this with a package delivered to me once. I even had proof that the dumbass mail-person messed up (I had the key to the parcel locker in my hand, but the door was wide open with another key in it), and it STILL took me 2 or 3 appeals to get any money out of it.

Local magager said the lady "feels like she did the right thing". WHAT?! haha

It was a $250 package, and I finally ended up getting $109. Which was also weird considering there was only $100 insurance. They're about as sh*ttily ran as PP.

OP, I can't imagine you being SOL for any of this. You did your part and the package shows delivered. Sounds like it's between them and Paypal, at this point. If it's not an expensive item, and you're gonna catch a lot of grief over it, maybe just send them another one. Let us know how it plays out!

Re: Does the free $100 USPS insureance cover a claim for Item not Received?

^^Just to add onto that, the USPS insurance program in general appears to have gone to sh!t this year. They denied one of my claims altogether - a $200 shipment which mysteriously stopped updating mid-transit and never showed delivery - even though I provided all the proof I was obligated to provide. Another one just last week, they cut me a $50 check but the claim (and the amount I lost) was $102.50.

It's always been a hassle but they haven't been such tightwads in years past. They're causing me legitimate losses and then refusing to pay out like they're obligated. Class-action time? Doubt it, lol.

Maybe it's because of their record breaking losses. Regardless, always use PIP insurance for any shipment you can't afford to take the loss on. (Note that PIP is also useless if your tracking confirms delivery though)

I've came to learn recently that even when you purchase additional insurance up to a certain amount, it's still at THEIR discretion, the amount which you get paid for a lost/damaged package. Which is BULLSH*T!!

I'm not sure how they're still losing money, as much as shipping prices keep going up. But then I reflect back on how much they suck and it's quite clear lol

http://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/2...t-quarter.html

Only company in the world who can lose $2.1B in a quarter and keep on trucking as usual.

Health and pension benefits for retirees is what's killing them. Causing them billions in losses each year. Sad situation.

I never buy extra insurance but did recently have a package go missing, USPS approved my claim online for the free $100 the next day for my full amount $100, although I did lose $50.00.

It was quick and easy, I never even knew pri mail includes free $100 insurance.

Dunno if this second issue is a scammer or not but this one says delivered and hes claiming he never received it.

Re: Does the free $100 USPS insureance cover a claim for Item not Received?

It could be a number of things. Could be someone trying to scam you, could be a postal error where they delivered to the wrong place, or it could be a stolen package. Surely Amazon has some kind of program in place similar to eBay seller protection. eBay seller protection was designed for just this kind of thing. If tracking shows delivery and buyer claims they didn't receive it, eBay covers the loss 90% of the time.

Good luck either way.

BTW I've had plenty of successful USPS claims, I was just noting how they seem to be a little tighter with insurance money lately.

Did you purchase the postage through Amazon? They will pay for A-Z claims for Item not received if tracking shows delivered.

Yes but the problem is buy shipping was having issues at the time I was shipping so I used shipping easy :( The buyer opened an A-Z and I told Amazon about the shpping glitch and to review my history that I always use buy shipping but I could not purchase Amazon labels at that time :(

Re: Does the free $100 USPS insureance cover a claim for Item not Received?

You're boned. They do not cover it unless you had signature confirmation. It seems there are a ton of people doing the 'I didn't get it' thought it was marked delivered.

I can see it from both ends though, b/c the mail carriers can be overloaded and be off by one digit and things go sideways. Its basically a cost you have to build into your business when dealing on Amazon, because they will typically always side with their bread and butter (customer).

Re: Does the free $100 USPS insureance cover a claim for Item not Received?

Here's my personal rule: Any item sold for over 100$ get's sig confirmation.

Buyer doesn't like it, tough. "This is to insure your package isn't stolen." :)

Adjust the figure to meet your needs. Your figure might be $200. Or $500.

Keep in mind that both eBay and Amazon have certain thresholds where signature is REQUIRED as proof of delivery. Google it for the most up-to-date info.

For Paypal it's $750, but sometimes I use it on $500+ packages... just depends on how vulnerable I'm feeling on that day lol

Seems like it is $600, so why doesnt Amazon cover INR then if you ship to the address provided like paypal does?
