Package Damaged - Amazon says customer needs to file AtoZ for me claim insurance

I sent a package with Fedex, with shipping purchased through Amazon.

Buyer sent me pics of the item totally damaged ($300 item).

Buyer wants a replacement item, but Amazon says he needs to file AtoZ in order for me to get reimbursement for the damaged item.

Will the AtoZ damage my metrics?

Yes it will. Do not send a replacement. Send him a label to get the item back. If he is scamming charge restocking fee... then you will get a-z . Only charge restocking fee if your odr short term can weather it. Odr is everything with amazon... every desishion you make needs to be with odr in mind.

The issue is that the package was damaged and he needs to file an insurance claim. It seems to me like you should contact the shipping service (USPS, UPS, etc) and see what you need to do to file a claim

I do not see why a case needs opening, the claim is between you and shipper, you do not even need to tell shipper that it was an amazon buy, just give all info as if it were a personal shipment, they need buyer address, value of item invoice and pic of damage.

does a buyer always have to help? does carrier contact them? I noticed they do not, on at least the lower value stuff...

Yes. For claim the recipient has to go to local post office. Not sure on ups / FedEx. I imagine the same process. Signature solves all these issues .

Most times I set a goal of braking even on these situations. Get the broken item back fix / sell for repair / local sale.
