Do Amazon check what you are selling?

Seems like you can sell a restricted item for a long time if you stay below the radar and no one reports you.

I have a hunch amazon check the first item sold or check the first listings from a new seller. Anyone got any opinion or insight into this?

As long as sales (quantity or value) aren't too high then you are pretty much left alone until verification kicks in at a later date.

Oh yes, they definitely check... you really can't mess around with them.
If their bots don't get you first, your competitors and buyers will.

So if you want to be successful, do it the right way and get those items listed the right way.

Always found ebay likely to get reported quickly. Amazon you can sell for months without issues.
Not sure if you can list restricted items from the get go? Not sure if they manually check out the first sale?

I always stumble by sellers on Amazon who have a percentage of negative feedbacks between 10-25% and yet they're still active. However, these observations took place on Amazon.de. I think Amazon and Ebay outside the US are way more lenient with sellers, I couldn't find any other explanation to that phenomena! For instance, as soon as a new seller registers with Ebay.de, they are granted a selling limit of 10000$/10000 items per month, from what I heard that is not the case in the US.

It really depends on the account history etc.

I honestly believe that working amazon from the right angle and right way is the best thing to focus on rather than figuring out a round about way... for now at least.

Amazon isn't Ebay. Most of the time Amazon buyers do not know that they can leave a feedback. Those who find out there is an option to leave feedback are mostly the disappointed buyers. AMZ seems to know that because in the end the seller metrics is all that counts for them and for the health of an account. If you have less than 1% negative feedback compared to all sales (not compared to all feedback left) you are golden even with 100% negative feedback.

Yes the amz bots will get you. You have to start slow with non vero and low ticket items.
