I saw a post mentioning that Amazon is testing a new identification method using face recognition

"On signup - Video Capture We will record a 5-second video of your face. The video will be encrypted and stored for identification purpose. To Proceed, enable access to your web cam"

Even if this does happen, I think it needs to be an optional thing.

I don't think it'll be a welcomed feature. At least not for years.

Amazon are rapidly getting too big for their boots IMO.

I love the way they say it is encrypted and stored so it is not a problem.

How naive can you be?

They will want a DNA sample next...

Get one of those..webcam softwares that overlays a face ontop of your face..like a snapchat filter!

Get good at photoshop and alter cheekbones and chin sizes. You'll be a new person every other day

Years ago it was easy to setup a virtual webcam with software. It would emulate a webcam and show whatever video you selected in video chats and things like that.

Might be an option here, but it's not going to be easy to edit those 5 second videos and make it look like an entirely new person. Plus they're probably going to be trying to match your face to some kind of database which you would presumably fail with a 'shopped face.

I've only seen this in one facebook post ...has anyone seen this anywhere else? They said it was for canada and no further info.

I saw the same rumor from a seller group email/fb

Amazon.CA has started asking some users to connect a webcam during signup to use for verification purposes. “Video Capture We will record a 5-second video of your face. The video will be encrypted and stored for identification purpose. To Proceed, enable access to your webcam” As predicted in my article last week about multiple accounts, in 2019 Amazon plans to increase the security and identification of each account. It’s unclear if this is just for new accounts going forward or all accounts.
