Asking for passport or drivers license number

Well, I passed the tax interview using a new EIM (individual proprietor) and thought I was good to go; but then they asked for a passport or drivers license number. Is that normal? What now? Did I do something wrong for the tax interview?

Its pretty normal for them to do full verification up front now.
