From Jan 2020 for selling in France marketplace they will check if you have valid vat otherwise they block you

Ebay and Amazon have spelled it out pretty clearly.

The tax law requires (Amazon) to provide the French Tax Authority with data regarding your 2019 Amazon business by January 31, 2020 including your French and European VAT numbers. The French Tax Authority may use your data to assess your compliance with French tax requirements. If they find you are non-compliant, they may direct us to suspend your Amazon.fr account and prevent you from selling to customers in France.

For selling in France you must have a vat number , if they found you they suspend
( From 20 jan 2020)

I had a message recently in the seller board that you are obliged to add a vat in France for avoid fravd

I hope not but they are ask you to also to upload the invoice to the customer with the fiscal details ,how you are going to do if you are stealth of individual .I know France and Germany are more strictly on that
