VCC's Work Up Until their Expiration Dates?

My recent disbursement was canceled because of the card I had on file so I purchased a VCC on here and everything is fine now. Just wondering if this VCC will work all the way to its expiration date or do I need to find an alternative? Also what amount does Amazon check for on the card before they send the disbursement?
