Amazon velocity limits?

I may be approaching what I hear as the velocity limits of $750 for my first month. What exactly will Amazon do when I pass it? I am using a stealth account due to a prior suspension. Is there a good chance of them approving or raising the limit?

upsidedown 09-23-2009 09:36 PM

Get some feedback first before trying to pass it

phson01 09-24-2009 01:52 PM

the velocity will increase as your feedback score increases, a score of 5-6 allows you to sell couple of thousands dollars in sales revenue

phson01 09-24-2009 02:14 PM

but if you only have 0-1 feedback score, Amazon will put you under review if your sales exceed about $300. All my comments are based on my personal experiences

phson01 09-24-2009 02:16 PM

also I don't think there is a fixed velocity, it depends on the unit price of your product as well as the unit sales. My products are all in the $10-$20 range, so a sale amount of $300 with no feedback will have me under review...

upsidedown 09-24-2009 06:41 PM

I actually have sold about $700 from one of my amazon accts this past month after opening it a month ago without any problems- it may also depend on what you sell- high risk products will attract more attention

getaroundebay 09-24-2009 06:45 PM

I have done £1300 (approx $1800) no problems until getting 30 day hold, but personally I prefer to get it out of the way quickly!

Thats with no feedback too, I get 1/10 amazon buyers leaving feedback!

nyknicks8 09-24-2009 07:07 PM

It seems like everyone has a different experience. I sold a little over $300 item 2 weeks after opening my account, and I recently requested a deposit, and I got an email saying the deposit is on the way. I only have 1 feedback too. Just wondering anyone else around there have any input. From posts above:
1. a person sold many items adding up to $300 --> 30 day block
2. a person sold $700 --> no block

ovidiu 09-24-2009 07:30 PM

Not everyone is going to be treated the same, of course. As "upsidedown" stated, it surely does matter what you actually sell. Feedback is important. I suggest everyone proactively ask for feedback from buyers. If you don't, you're only likely to get feedback when unhappiness is the motivation for leaving it.

GreenBean 09-24-2009 07:37 PM

amazon is similar to ebay. Each seller will be appraised differently. The bottom line is how YOUR account is conducted. Up to any amazon seller to
work and deserve the feedback. By all means look at what others say, but determine what is best for you.:peace:

nyknicks8 09-24-2009 08:11 PM

Also when they review your account for going over the limit for the first time, is it an automatic 30 day block? Like do they ever just review the account and just approve an higher limit. I don't want to sell something, get a 30 day block, and ship without being paid. Thanks for all the input.

ovidiu 09-24-2009 08:15 PM

They do sometimes just approve you. This is how I passed my first one a couple years back. Of course, they are surely stricter these days.

nyknicks8 09-24-2009 09:25 PM

What are considered high risk items? I don't quite get how some item can be high risk.

GreenBean 09-24-2009 09:47 PM

'High risk items' can be items that get reproduced and sold as being the real thing. High risk can mean for amazon the potential of fraud and scam.
amazon is very strict with what it permits sellers to offer. It is aslo strict with who is allowed to sell on their site. Like saying you are from one country but you live in another country ;)

nyknicks8 09-24-2009 11:33 PM

Is it possible for Amazon to remove/withdraw the deposit after its shown in my bank account? [Say I requested a $100 withdrawal... 5 days later it shows up in my bank account.. can amazon now remove it?]

Suppose Amazon puts my account in review and blocks it for 30 days. If I refund the one order I have pending, will they suspend me?

And for my credit card name, I put a variation of my name on Amazon's site, but the name linked to the credit card is still my real name, and so far it seems to have gone through. Will they be able to find out my real name from teh credit card company?

Sorry for all the questions, I need to get this straight before I start shipping and selling any further. I read through nearly all of the threads, and I couldn't get a definntiive answer to these questions.

GreenBean 09-25-2009 12:09 AM

So why did you get a prior suspension? What did you do to annoy amazon?
What you are asking is just a bit strange :peace:

ovidiu 09-25-2009 12:38 AM

That first question of yours in post 15 is strange. Why would Amazon go to the length of trying to debit your bank account for a supposedly fulfilled order?

nyknicks8 09-25-2009 12:48 AM

The reason I asked about them being able to withdraw, is if a buyer claims their item was not as described or whatever BS reason, which was why I got suspended the first time. Also for the suspended account, I refunded a few orders at once which I think caused the trigger.
What I am worried about is getting screwed over by the buyer (Amazon as well). I have had many experiences where the buyer claims they didn't receive it, or it wasn't what they expected on both ebay and Amazon. I sell legit items that I get for cheap after rebates or from friends working at retail stores. I'm tired of having suspended accounts, and Amazon holding my money for 90 days, which I think is fraud. I would understand them keeping some of it, but all of it makes no sense. We are paying Amazon a fee to sell and protect both the buyers and sellers. If they want to hold our money they should give us a reasonable interest rate.

So please, if anyone can answer my questions in post #15, it would be really helpful, especially about the credit card name. I'm worried that this account will get suspended too.

ovidiu 09-25-2009 12:57 AM

What area are you selling in? I've had exactly two "not as described" cases in nearly 6 years, so it seems strange that you would start getting them right away. Not every Amazon buyer is out to defraud sellers.

GreenBean 09-25-2009 01:41 AM

Your story just does not sit well. The questions are not what a reasonable seller on amazon would worry about: you claimed to be suspended but no mention of appealing that. Any seller with a good earning niche would hang onto that, not walk away. ebay has been overrun with scammers. Now they are moving onto amazon.
They need no encouragement.

I had a huge personal experience reply already typed out for this thread, but I chose not to reply.

It was a sweet reply too!

Well, I don't think we are all reasonable sellers here if we're trying to create a second amazon account. If you want to think I'm a scammer, theres nothing I can do. But what I want to make sure is since my old Amazon account has a negative balance since a buyer filed a claim for an item and I didn't have an balance, that the negative balance doesn't get charged to my bank account. And my appeal got denied with the standard issue response that there claims and a refund. I don't sell that much, but I want to be able to occasionally sell without having to worry whether I will be paid. My previous account had 30 feedback, so it wasn't a big deal, and I sent many emails to them, and recently they just stopped replying. Why would I mention my appeal if noone asked about it?
