Struggling with Amazon Stealth Account Taxes
 

Hi all, I'm really struggling right now with filing taxes for my stealth account.

I'm trying to file my 2021 taxes for the Amazon account I purchased on this forum, however, when Amazon issued the 1099-K for that account, it was under a random name and social security number, and I'm not sure who that is since they were added before I purchased the account. I've already went in the account and updated the tax information to show my new LLC's name and EIN number that I created, but I'm not sure how to update the 1099-K Amazon sent out to reflect that because I didn't update the EIN number until after the 1099-K was sent out. So the 1099-K is issued under some random name and social security number, is this a problem? Amazon also says in their guidelines that "Amazon will not issue an updated Form 1099-K form for previous years. It is the seller's responsibility to have updated information on file in all of their selling accounts.".

This puts me in a very tough spot because if I don't file taxes for the revenue earned on this account I purchased, then the IRS will reach out to this random person who was originally added to create the stealth account and ask them to pay the taxes which will end up being a fraud case since they shouldn't be on the 1099-K in the first place. Is it okay if I go ahead and file even though my LLC's EIN doesn't match what's on the Amazon 1099-K?

download the 1099k then pay it perhaps?

Yeah I plan on paying it even thought the 1099K is using someone else’s TIN. Hopefully that will help me from not getting in trouble

The form to correct the 1099k is a W9 form from the IRS. Amazon must send you the form and then they send it to the IRS. Same goes for ebay, etsy, paypal, facebook etc

Did you ask whoever sold you the AMZN account whose SSN comes with it?
Did you sell a lot on AMZN?HOW MUCH?
IRS will add the 1099 sales amount to his income tax return and if it is a large amount,he will be audited.
I know cases with Paypal,if your PAYPAL SSN is his and he owes IRS money,IRS can come and seize whatever you have in your Paypal account,same could happen with AMZN account.

Why not just pay it as if it was yours in the correct name. If you ever get audited, just show that it was paid and somehow AZ messed up.
To the government, it would show honesty and that you are not hiding anything.
Just a thought.

so he pays tax on what he sold,but the sales would go to the person whose SSN he used,not him,per 1099K issued by AMZN.
he is wasting his money and if the SSN owner gets audited,he will be in trouble .

Yup that's what I'm doing actually, just going to pay off the whole tax amount so if the IRS does come looking they'll see atleast I paid what I needed to.

But that's the thing, I purchased the account from someone which had another SSN on it. I had no intent to steal someone's social, they SS was just on that account to begin with before I purchased the account

Converting the AZ account to business with EIN/LLC would help - posts are around the forum for searching and reading.
