How can you change brand name when brand name is locked?
 

I'm having trouble editing a number of listings because it complains about the brand name (there isn't one but I had to fill the field anyway). The problem is that it locks that field and won't let me edit it, even though it's saying to either change that or the ASIN. Unless I'm missing something, the only thing I can do is to edit in the grid to change either the quantity or price.

In a number of listings I had just filled in "unknown," for the brand, which used to be OK. Then it automatically switched those to an actual brand name with Unknown as part of the name. I dunno what you're supposed to say there, "generic."?

How do you make the listings editable again? Or do you have to delete the listing entirely and create a new one? My items don't typically have UPCs or EANs, though I've bought EANs before from eBay just to have something to fill in the field. Any suggestions appreciated.

The only way to do it is to contact support and provide them an image with the brand name you want and the EAN thats on the ASIN. It used to be so easy but the bad actors came in and tried hijacking every listing.

Does everything have to have a brand name or is there some word like "generic" that they'll pick up as meaning being unbranded? I had "unknown" in some listings and it stayed that way for months, and then automatically got switched to an actual brand name that has "unknown" in the name, which I didn't want. So I didn't use the right word.

Thats probably sellers who are moving in to claim the ASIN as their own. Ive seen some generic brand listings, but then that allows others to add their offer with free will. Just make a basic brand name, trademark it then you're safe.
