Amazon verifying UTR numbers?

Hi lurking around here for a few years now and have several Amazon UK Business accounts with stealth details, recently three accounts which have been actively selling for years have asked for new information- Looks like they are after recent letters from HMRC confirming UTR. I uploaded the letter you get from HMRC confirming your UTR and its being rejected, one of the accounts has been suspended as they can not verify my selling account. The UTR numbers being used are ones sold to me with the accounts when I purchased them years ago.
I am assuming they are checking UTR numbers against a database.

If that is the case any way around this? My whole business revolves around using stealth accounts to spread the risk of account suspension.

MY understanding is the UTR can't be checked. As long as it's done with the algorithm it should be OK.

The last two sole trader accounts I created on Amazon not only did I have to enter a UTR they asked for a copy of a document displaying the number.

Whilst you may be able to negotiate this at the moment if you have a UTR generator and can make a suitable paper copy, lets not forget that in 11 months time Amazon, ebay, etsy etc will be submitting all seller details, turnover etc for the previous 12 months to HMRC and there's a good chance if you have a UTR recorded this will form part of the submission. That's activity happening right now.

Stealth accounts with fraudulent details and documents will become a potentially awkward matter, I've already started re-assessing my activity.

Re: Amazon verifying UTR numbers?

you can try using UTR which matches the formula but obviously if UTR already supplied to amazon it would be impossible to change

Didnt get a chance its now gone into review- Proof of address not accepted, used a BT bill, and this morning the 2 step Authorisation kicked in- timing is perfect so they will not accept the ID to reset 2 step while in review.

Another one bites the dust.

Hank, Im getting twitchy myself over all this, most of my amazon stealth details were purchased over the years before it got tricky- I always wondered about the legality of using ⊗⊗⊗⊗ names and other peoples addresses.
I always dreaded that message from someone asking why they are receiving returns to their address, I always told myself its not fraud I'm just circumventing Amazons policy. But I never had to mess with banks and the Taxman, If I could afford to I would bow out now but I cant.

Why don't you just rent a PO box? That's what I do all the time

I've just looked this up and it's going to kick in Jan 2024. It states they will collect data from Jan 2024 and report on Jan 2025 so we should be ok for another 11 months.

Not sure how this will play out. We can all be tracked through bank accounts if HMRC want to.
