Amazon is now verifying accounts with facial recognition over Video

It seems that amazon is now giving us a secondary option to verify accounts other than video. They are pushing their Facial Recognition software as an alternative.

Is anyone aware of this? Ive been making amazon stores for years and haven't seen this option yet. I always usually just get video verification as a option.

Ive taken a screen shot of it but cant upload here. What do account experts think though if you seen it already?

Take a photo of your faceTake a photo of your face
Use your device camera to take images of your face and your government-issued ID document. We will compare them to complete this step of verification.

They normally ask for Video verification when there's something flagging them.

Or when they are doing a sweep

I wasnt referring to video verification. Its a new facial recognition option to replace video verification.

I haven't encountered that yet on the new accounts that I'm making.

That's like asking for your DNA

It's an option to do that instead of video verification. You either do the traditional video verification with an Amazon rep or the new automated facial recognition thing with a 3rd party service which checks if your face matches the face on the ID document.

IRS uses ID.ME which requires you to take a picture holding ID cards.
is that what AMZN is using now?

no ID.ME is far more invasive. I tried to use that for something related to the IRS and my verification failed with all real docs.

I have a better suggestion, make us go to the local police office to get verified.

You can, you need to use a hosting site like imgBB.

IMO this is better than video verification, stills will always be easier to manipulate.

Indeed it's not true Facial Recognition technology like communist China, that relies on a database to compare it to and Amazon don't have that.

It's not a still, they record you turning your head side to side.

Got it, so it's video verification carried out by an AI bot.

Right... I'm just thinking perhaps this will make it easier to "be creative" to pass this type of verification

There will always be a way around this, some enterprising person will share how it’s done no doubt.

Yeah it has been up for a while now, real video verification is stronger than software so if you are able to - just do real video verification.

Re: Amazon is now verifying accounts with facial recognition over Video

I am trying to open a new account and got the same request:
Verify your identity by taking a photo of your face
Amazon and its third-party service providers use facial recognition technology to verify your identity and for fraud prevention purposes. On the next screen, one of our third-party service providers will directly capture images of your face and government ID documents. Then, Amazon (using its own technology such as AWS Rekognition) and our third-party service provider may each take biometric measurements of your face (which we refer to as facial data) from each image to verify your identity and prevent fraud.

The problem is that although my face will match the ID doc I submitted the birthday is different, so if I show the original it will not match. Any thoughts?
