Default Selling as an individual

Setting up a seller account on Amazon, it gives me several options to choose from, the two that I'm most confused as what to choose is either individual or Sole proprietor. I do not have a registered business. I just want to test out the waters with my product on Amazon. Also, would I qualify for listing a product that is gated if I'm an individual seller?

if you dont have a registered business, going as an individual to test the waters is proper. If an item is gated, you would not automatically qualify without further proof and acceptance by AZ

Unless you are just selling a few items you will be a sole proprietor. Fine to start off as an individual if testing a product but Amazon will soon recognise when you start selling multiple items and will suspend your account until you upgrade to a sole proprietor.

You don't need to set up a business...but you do need to register with HMRC as a sole trader and Amazon will then want your unique tax reference number.

If I signed up as an individual (at first), would I still qualify to ungate a gated category? Then change to Sole proprietor once I know its worth it to do so

Your best just going with sole prop really

As an individual seller its really limited what you can do so you cannot really test much out

Can I just use any Business name (made up business name) at first just to get my foot in the door?

It's sole prop so just use the name on the account itself

As James stated, sole prop is likely the best way to go - fiddling with made-up business name is not ideal if verification comes up

NO, not really , plus most of the time you'll end up having to upgrade to pro anyways

When you do not have a company you must do it as an individual, if you register as something else they could ask you for documents to verify them

it's the volume, Yobar.

The volume treshold for an individual is very low.
