2024. Do names have to match on new accounts now?

Do either names on deposit bank account or charge card have to match the account holder name these days?

I think banks are more fussy these days with matching names for payments but otherwise I have used mis matching names in the past.
Same with the charge card (I use my own credit/debit card...not vcc)

it depends on the bank but a lot of the time no. Dont use Wise personal accounts and Barclays can be very hit and miss

Most online banks wont work with mismatching names

EDIT - Ops this is Amazon. Its fine Amazon doesnt share the name like eBay does

It's my understanding that the way Amazon send the file the account holder name isn't included so it doesn't matter. I've used most banks and the only issue I ever had as Nationwide accepting payments not in sterling.

I still don't know how you can use your own debit card when the details have to match for Amazon.

I have had accounts under different names but used my own debit card as a charge card.

I must have used my own name to get the card to be charged. This would mismatch the name on the account but it didn't previously matter. It may be different now and trigger verification on new accounts?

I work with wise with an account and receive payments to a mismatched name without any problem since more than a year

That's good. The next question is whether your credit card or VCC details (the charge card you attach to your account) has to have names matching the stealth account?

Many credit cards and VCC will match fine to the stealth account name - you should registered the card to the address of the account and use stealth account name

Nope, it doesn't matter. Just match the names when you enter it but the card itself can have a different name which you don't disclose

Did you use your legit name and address? Have these details been suspended by Amazon before? If so it will link it at some point and the account will be deactivated. It might not be immediately. Has been known to link 6 months later.

No, stealth address details. The only things in my name would be card and bank. I think you have to add a valid postcode to verify the card. Not sure if you have to add a matching house number too?
Those would be from suspended account...but it wasn't picked up previously. Postcode covers about 30 addresses. Giving the correct house number would be where any link would occur.

I tried this with 5 different UK banks before. The house number and post code has to match for it to go through. Post Code alone wasn't enough.

Can anyone confirm if UK high street bank debit cards don’t work as a payment method on Amazon if the name and address don’t match? I tried one; Amazon charged me £1, but my account shows it as an invalid payment method and asks me to enter a new credit or debit card.

It goes up against a data base to look up your card number, besides post code and house number, also expiration date and status such as active, expired, exceed credit limit or reported stolen but not name of cardholder as it is not available.
if reported stolen,it could also tell the merchant to confiscate the card in a brick and mortar shop.

You mean the address must match?

Seems it must. Went round in circles with Amazon as my Company credit card is registered at my residential address. Wouldn't have it until I put in the business address, even though it's not registered there, and it went though.

EDIT: Just remembered...to make it work I had to generate a new virtual card as the physical card was blocked following my failed attempt to re-submit it either because they recognised the card was registered to a different residential address and the virtual card, for whatever logic, wasn't or you only get one shot with any given card. Can't remember what conclusion I came to at the time.
