Does amazon ever call supplier?

Curious to hear others takes.

Some asins are auto approved. Others pend.

Does Amazon generally call the suppliers / distributor for the asins that are not auto approved? Or is it more of a flip of a coin? What determines if Amazon actually calls?

Heck I wonder if it would be wise to keep the distributors number or get a burner phone and use that as the number just in case amazon does call

Re: Does amazon ever call supplier?

I haven't seen experiences of AZ calling suppliers/distributor - they can but I don't think it's worth the effort on their end. Seems much easier to just give out a generic reason for blocking

They absolutely do. At least in the USA.

By now, they must have a list of suppliers real and ⊗⊗⊗⊗ on their data base, they have no need to call.

amazon have approved suppliers , this means they know what that is and I do not have a doubt that they can ask to verify invoices , maybe they do not do it every time but where they have suspicions

For ASIN creation, 100% guarantee that Amazon do not call suppliers.

That is not the point, to verify you actually ordered from them..

Of all the altered docs I have sent in, they have not contacted.

But I always let the supplier know I have sent into and it may be contacted.

OP asked if they contact suppliers when creating an ASIN and if it isn't duly registered on their database would they contact a supplier. (for a non-existent seller). They don't because they can't - There is no seller yet.

Once the ASIN is approved and a seller adds their stock then they're open to scrutiny. In any event, I'm still not convinced that even if they subsequently asked a seller for invoices they routinely try and contact the supplier asking for privileged information.

A regular poster on here said that we are giving Amazon permission to contact our suppliers and that's why they claimed suppliers will roll over and discus our private relationships with them. I've trawled Amazons terms and not fount this. The poster was unwilling or, more likely, unable to supply a link to this claim.

If it was true Amazon are calling our suppliers, can anyone shed any light on how Amazon would approach them to the point where our suppliers simply roll over and discus our trade accounts breaching confidentiality laws in most countries?

Everything. Without specific approval for them to release privileged information to a third party they should say nothing, particularly on the phone!

Amazed you think my trade accounts aught to be public information.

Remember, AZ is about making $. Verifying an invoice doesn't create a cash flow, it's grunt work. AZ just wants to cover their ass in the case of a manufacturer complaint. They show the invoice to the Manufacturer and legally they are covered and the seller then becomes the person of interest.

This makes sense and is the approach of least effort vs coverage

I wasnt asking for when someone creates an ASIN - I am asking for asins that dont auto approve you when requesting to sell on them. Many asins auto approve instantly. Other asins pend. The ones that pend give me the impression amazon is digging deeper.

Each situation is different but I personally had a supplier call me and flip out saying Amazon just called to verify invoices.. basically just verifying I was a customer and verifying the qualities:) he flipped out because technically he's not supposed to be selling to Amazon sellers per the manufacturer so he was running scared the manufacturer would find out.

amazon do a lot more than covering their ass , they have been gating categories , remove asins etc. , it is rather a strategy where they do not want smaller sellers anymore , also no private sellers. they may allow them to sell but set a high bar

For product liability,I am under the impression AMZN wants its sellers to acquire insurance?
As for selling counterfeits and knockoffs,Tiffany once took Ebay to court for false advertising (allowing third party sellers to sell ⊗⊗⊗⊗ Tiffany merchandise) and lost,as the judge said the manufacturer should be the one keeping an eye on such.
So manufacturers come to Ebay and look for counterfeits, sometimes they will just end the listings outright(VERO) or they will buy the item and take a good look.
If they can do this on Ebay, why cant they do the same on other venues like AMZN??

Yes AZ is starting to do this. If the manufacturer doesn't recognize the seller name, you can get hit with a counterfeit complaint from the manufacturer.
They are a pain to get rid of, even if you provide all necessary docs.

agent, these kind of questions seem odd from you - there are some rules and common sense in business.

Same thing with this question "what is so confidential between a retailor and his supplier?"...I hope you are joking
