Got a chargeback

I got a chargeback on an order of around $200. I put signature confirmation on this one.

The tracking shows notice left, and then 2 minutes later shows refused. It says being returned to sender. This was 2 days ago and it hasn't been tracked back to me.

I'm sure this is CC Fraud. Somebody making a big order, and then not wanting to sign for the delivery, and then the CC holder finding out and doing a chargeback? Or it was a scammer who wanted to make a big order, hope there was no delivery confirmation and then say he never got it, and changed his mind when he saw the signature confirmation? Why go through a chargeback and not just request a refund!?!?!?!

This is so suspicious, I shipped it out, was refused 2 days later, I never got it back and 2 days after the refusal I get a chargeback.

I have another feeling that maybe they didn't want to sign for it and got the mailman to give it to them anyway?

This is pretty annoying, has me thinking about using UPS or FedEx for high cost stuff not for the insurance but for the more reliable tracking..if that would even matter for a chargeback

Must be fraud of some sort. Otherwise, they could have just asked for a refund. You're right.

So does Amazon cover fraud in any way, and what's up with the signature refusal and then I'm not getting the stuff back??

Also, contacting the buyer doesn't do any good because it's probably not the credit card holder? Isn't this Amazon's fault for putting through a fraudulent payment to me?

You should get the item back if it was refused. You won't get it back in a mere two days, though.

superstealth 01-30-2010 05:58 PM

Well it got there in two days, and normally takes 2 days from here. Maybe it takes longer to get back in the system with a refusal. It seems funny that there was a notice left and a refusal 2min later..maybe the mail carrier marked it as notice left then they came to the door and he could update it again as refused. Hopefully they didn't refuse it and still kept it anyway

What exact service did you use? Signature confirmation and USPS? That updates quicker than delivery confirmation, since if he refused it, the carrier uses a wireless gizmo to update the system on the spot.

superstealth 01-30-2010 07:04 PM

Yes USPS with Signature Confirmation...If I get the stuff back then I can do the refund, I wonder if I have to do the full refund and eat the Priority Mail and signature confirmation..probably since it's a chargeback for the full amount and it might be better if I refund it than have them take it from me?

I'm wondering if I go into the order and refund if the chargeback will disappear? Or should I do the dispute where I give my side of the story?

ovidiu 01-30-2010 07:10 PM

The chargeback is not being done thru Amazon. Call seller services and ask how to handle this; you probably shouldn't do a refund too as they might both go thru and you get double-dipped.

If this was fraud then what about Amazon's fraud screening for marketplace payments? Do they cover it if they think my evidence is good?

ovidiu 01-30-2010 07:59 PM

I've never had a chargeback so no idea, sorry.

If the buyer refuses delivery they are off the hook. If you are charged for return shipping you can deduct the amount from any refund you issue. You should still be able to issue a refund while the chargeback is being looked into.

If the item isn't returned to you, that a shipping insurance issue

superstealth 01-30-2010 08:55 PM

Yeah I understand it's an insurance issue, and it's Priority Mail so return shipping is included...I would just find it very fraudulent if it happens to not be returned to me following a refusal. If that happens then there's something going on with that mail carrier
