CA Government contacting for sales permit?
 

Board of Equalization is reviewing online ads and contacting sellers who should have a California seller's permit. You are being contacted by e-mail since this is the only contact option available. Please respond to this e-mail by contacting me at (xxx) xxxxx. If you are concerned about phishing schemes, you can also contact me by calling the Board of Equalization's official number xxxx and press (x,x,x,x) to bypass the phone tree options and be directly transferred to me. If you are a valid permit holder, you may respond by e-mail with your seller’s permit number, name, and daytime telephone number. Failure to respond to this notice will result in a legal action to obtain your information from Amazon. Thank you for your cooperation.

I just got an email from CA Gov... I never knew I need sales permit for amazon. Do you guys think Gov will really take legal action to get my info?

at this point, what is the best thing to do? do i have to contact them?

First, i thought it's scam in the beginning... at the end of the email, there was a link to Gov Website.

Want to solve this bs just change were you sell from and your email . I do not know how they would get your email but if it were me i would sell from another state that is it. problem fixed. stay hidden:behindsofa::ninja:

They didn't get my email... they contacted me through amazon product inquiry... so far they do not have any of my info... Do you think they will really take legal action to get my info? because this is not stealth account...

I would pretend it went to your spam mail. They dont ahve any way to prove that you actually received the email... Forget about it and move on

And gas for your car is ALWAYS high :) 80 % of the price is taxes.

The price now is: 6.59 $ / gallon

Where I live gas is about $5 a gallon but Coca Cola is only 25 cents a bottle......WhooooHooooo!

Wow..thats expensive. I never expected gas to be this expensive in India, you should try to bargain with them..lol. Gas in Canada is about $1 a liter and we have to pay 14% tax. Suck it up USA people! I think USA citizens pay the least tax, but with the new health bill coming in, the tax will probably go up.

I do not drink soda and gas is 3.00 a gallon here.Im talking sales tax .If the govt can't balance there own books why do we have to be the kettle to scrape from!!

You are required to collect California sales tax; enforcing this is what the enigmatically named "Board of Equalization" is for. If you do not collect it, you will, sooner or later, be required to pay it out of your pocket, along with who knows what else in penalties. I would suggest setting this up and NOT ignoring it.

You're only required to pay CA sales tax for items sold to CA residents. Why did the CA government solicit you specifically? In other words, why not the NY government? how do they know you're in CA, and how do they know you're selling to CA?

There's no way to around the tax thing i know. I do pay taxes and report sales tax. It's the linking that i'm worrying about cuz you never know if BOE will report my original info to amazon.

CA government is facing bankrupt that's why they are trying to squeeze anything out of CA residents.

how can we collect taxes to CA residents in Amazon? There is not option.

if amazon didnt provide your info,than they obviously contacted you through your storefront page,right? all i did was change my ship to location and it says i ship from VA,so i dont think ill be getting an email unless amazon provides all ca sellers,which i doubt they will,problem solved i guess

An email is not sufficient in the courts as notification. Until you get served or at the very least received a certified letter you have to sign for, you can ignore.
I would use the time as others suggest , to change your state and contact info.
If you every do get served or mistakenly sign for a certified letter, you should settle with them. The government is one mob run organization you do not mess with.
