New custom catalog item

Trying to create a catalog product and ran into some hurdles.

UPC code. I manufacture item, no such animal. Am I stuck putting this into "everything else"? Will it still get traffic there? Any way around this?

Shipping was still set by them on weight and size. Its ok for now, but I thought I could change that with pro

Ok so I was looking at these pages and best I can gather is I make up the barcode and register the number for $15.

But what do I use for number? Do I just make whatever up?
