Activity: 0% Longevity: 85% | | Help with UPC# for Amazon
Any workarounds to this UPC # rule. I asked for an exemption but its been going on for about 2 months now with 3 emails and 2 phone calls each saying, please wait to be contacted.
So instead of sitting back and doing nothing, I have products for sale but don't have upc numbers. I checked around sites and the site Amazon recommeneded wanted something of $750 for 1 number. That is not possible as I would be never profitable.
After doing some searching, is it correct that Amazon only checks the check digit? Also for UPC#'s, how do you know if another product has it used? And is a UPC like a Car Vin # where its associated with a particular line of products?
Trying to see if a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ UPC can be used if they only checking the last digit.
Thanks

You could TRY making one up, but it could end up causing you a problem in the future.
But $750 is ridiculous. I wonder how much commission Amazon gets for that.
I use a service that charges $29 for one UPC code and less for more than one: Quality UPC | Barcodes | Buy Official UPC Bar Codes | Valid Worldwide!
They are official barcodes.
UPC's are not like VIN's or ISBN's. But if you make one up you run the risk that someone else is or will be issued that same number. That is when the trouble begins.
Just search Google, there are cheaper places to buy them as well. Just make sure they are official. UPC codes are like domain names. At one time, there was only one issuer. Now there are lots of them. But even the ORIGINAL company that started issuing them only charges $89. I have no idea why Amazon is steering people to a service that charges $750 unless they are getting a commission on them.

The generator is only for those who have a registered UPC number and need to print them if they don't have access to their software.
But I was researching UPC numbers and how it is handled and it seems that there is no way to tell if its legit or not. Anyone care to share what happened with ⊗⊗⊗⊗ UPC numbers. I know the left 6 digits are the prefix for the company and the company uses any 5 remaining right numbers and the last number is the automatic check digit.
What I am mainly trying to find out is if I was to input a 12 digit number as a UPC in amazon, would they know it is ⊗⊗⊗⊗ and not one I bought.
Back to research.

You can buy them all over online, usually 5-10 each and i bought 10 for 20 bucks. Then you have to take the upc and go register it on another site that amzon checks with, the site it directs you to when it tells you the upc is invalid when you make it up.
Basically search around on google on the ppc ads on the right, 10 for 19.99, then go register and list, ive done this before with amazon no problem.

go get your UPC for a couple bucks from a real site, on the spot, go to above site and register it - thats where amazon checks for it
once you create and plug it in on above site, you can list on amazon as pro acct only. Even make a double listing to be first on the page lol. Works well for things that amazon doesnt like or is from out of country or no packaging and no prior listings.
I didnt realize this info is important until just now, after actually typing it out lol. Thought about it for a day or two and figured it out. Now i just have to get the multiples working from home if i can get all this MAC/ip/browser thing straightened out.

Maybe prepare for a hoard of moochers to be sliding underneath you in no time. They can smell a fresh new upc a mile away....:D
In the everything else category at least you have some control. Though you may get into trouble using it too much
After seeing the just launched Sellers lower their price exactly a penny lower ..over and over...then copy me again and post they ship twice per day well I replaced the pic of the item with a donkey for a few hours

yea those *******s, chased me off of there, then blew one of my accts since they went to charge the pro merchant fee to my VCC lol that didnt work and they locked it down. Waiting on a new computer in a couple weeks to setup a fresh, Amazon Ghost status, 2 or 3 accts on one computer type setup.
It seems i need to start selling some approved items on there, to build my rep for when i sell items that violate their terms of use (b.s.) now i setup my website and stick labels on everything i sell off of there to get the business to my own site...eat that amazon

Couldn't have put it better myself. I got tired real fast of playing that stupid game. Funny that it doesn't happen on eBay, but happens constantly on Amazon.

I have been using On Sale GS1 US - EAN - Universal UPC CODES for a while, selling on amazon, ebay, rakuten and sears. I haven't had any problems. Where ever you buy your codes from make sure it is legitimate reseller.
