New Seller listed as a Featured Merchant??

I am getting more and more confused about how featured merchants works. I thought that it was for sellers that had a very good established selling history on amazon. I've seen one brand new, no feedback seller listed as a featured merchant, and now I see one that has 47 feedback, 96% positive, and only selling 7 items as a featured merchant. Can someone explain to me if they have any experience on becoming one?

I really want to know this too!?!?!

It depends on category and selling total...

The new sellers though I think they have relationship with amazon to be able to do that. I know ppl who got featured with 30 feedback.

its all about how much stuff u sell ( dollar amount )

I have wondered that too. I have seen people with 10 feedback all 100% that were featured, and I also saw people with over 30 all 100% and they were not. Not sure what goes into it. If you sell FBA though, you will be featured (if your price is right) even with no feedback at all.

FBA is auto featured, no matter what price.

Not with everything. If the price is too high for what they think is resonable, you will not have a buy box or be featured. If they have Prime though, and you are reasonably priced, you will show up for that customer when they click on the product, sometimes over who the lowest is.

I used to sell FBA, so I know about it. And I sold items that were where there is not a featured merchant (movies) and where there was (vitimans). And if your price is too high for either one, you are not going to get the buy box.

Total sales and trends in a current month maybe?

I know that when I dominate a current product with a few others within the same product I am featured. I have sold about 20 or so of a a product a day for the past year or so, and the people below me are 1/4th the price, but I continue to be featured and making sales.

dancnbaby 09-10-2012 01:21 PM

That might be it. Maybe also if you have more of the product to offer? I have no idea?

damienw 09-12-2012 03:43 PM

Just mentioned this on another thread also.

I was doing well on amazon.co.uk and someone from amazon.com contacted me to see if i wanted to sell on there also. I accepted and was on featured from day 1. Considering this i assume that if you are invited by them to sell on Amazon.com that you will get the featured status.

Make sure there is no problems with your products if doing FBA.

Artann 09-13-2012 02:55 PM

because if there is a problem it will be very hard and expensive to get your inventory back! there is a lot of horror stories about it here

damienw 09-14-2012 03:25 PM

I dont have any FBA with them at the moment however a sales person from the FBA section was pushing for me to get some inventory in there.

It certainly is a worry.

I did however have an idea for the other sellers who have their inventory stuck. If they are not US based could they just get it shipped to a different fulfillment centre based in the US then sell from there on different channels. If they picked the correct one they may even be able to have it shipped back to their home country.

Yes, auto featured unless you have a crazy price at lets say item retails for $99 and your selling it for $499 or something crazy like that
