Do buyers really ever search by "storefront"?

I always figured that people looking for something on Amazon generally know what kind of stuff they're looking for already, and once they find it through their search they'll go ahead and buy it and possibly one or two related items if they catch their interest. Usually though they'll just go for which item in that listing is cheapest, all else being equal.

So why is it then that some people with large inventories actually post a couple of "loss leaders" in the hope that customers will buy something else more expensive from them as a result? The customer has no reason to buy multiple items from any one seller as opposed to different ones, so I don't see why they even bother with this. Or does it actually work for some reason?

No most buyers don't look at storefronts, maybe 1% check it out if there already there.
