Forget it, not going to happen. I tried to get approved for some items in the software category (here too, some listings are only approved for corporate sellers). I had 100% feedback, basically perfect account ratings, but no go. Amazon will basically only let big box stores and corporations seller in the restricted categories.
Amazon restricts categories (and even single items) that have proven to be a problem for them in the past.
However, I do know that one member here was approved to sell in the clothing category. So, while I believe Ovidiu, I would say it does not hurt to TRY, but don't get your hopes up.
This is one of those things where selling ⊗⊗⊗⊗ on Amazon makes it so much harder for the legitimate seller. Yeah, basically, if they say no the first time, give up. I tried a couple times for the same item, no amount of convincing will work if they say no the 1st time.
Since when do you need approval to sell electronics on amazon? Perhaps on certain high risk items but I sell some electronics and don't need approval. Heck on my first account i was a featured merchant in the electronics category.
Has anybody gone through the Amazon approval to sell in the electronics category?
They should really not have that requirment to get approved to sell there.
Also how quick do items in the electronics category sell?
I had to get approval to sell in the software category and also the watches category but I was approved within 4 working days.
I'm not sure why they wouldn't want to you to sell in these categories as long as the items you sell are legit, I have a webstore with Amazon so not sure if that could have helped.
The approval for software is usually a given in the general sense, but certain items are restricted and approved on a case by case basis. I think having some of the extra services like Pro merchant and webstore (in your case) certainly helps. I know they won't budge on some items though. Corporate sellers only.
Re: Approval Needed to Sell Certain Items (Amazon)
something changed. tried to list items, and looks like you can't sell used software any longer. Tried to list item under new upc, and amazon caught the item and blocked it. I believe due to name in title.

Thats impressive. The watch category is a bit difficult to be approved in (was for me anyway). Maybe amazon hosting your site is the ticket. Good info.
