Everyone has to follow the same set of 200/20k rules, you will know when Amazon wants to report.

Based on reports in this forum, the difference is that Amazon will force everyone to provide social, while Paypal will make it optional if you don't hit the limit.

So Amazon requests social, when close or past 200/20k ? Or do they request way before you are even close to the 20/20k?

They indicated, based on reports from another member, that they would require a social from every seller. They didn't say when they would ask, though. Probably bigshots first, then smaller sellers.

A social from eveyone? How about a EIN? Will have to look into this. If you have to provide ssn I'm screwed.

Here is update. They will only ask for 1099-K if 20,000 + 200 sales. However, the regulations also require that Amazon obtain taxpayer identification information from all sellers, regardless of gross sales and transaction volumes, in order for backup withholding not to apply on gross sales.
