It's Official! Amazon Truly IS The Devil!

There are a ton of articles about this, you can find over 100 of them at Google news.

Hands down, this has to be one of the absolute SLEAZIEST business practices implemented by a major corporation that I have ever seen.

Amazon Price-Check App Is Attack on Small Stores, Snowe Says - Businessweek

I'm all for online commerce, of course, and sometimes brick and mortar retailers whine excessively, but Amazon's new tactic is truly evil.

This makes counterfeiters look downright saintly by comparison. I'm sure that even the Mafia Bosses are bowing down to Jeff Bezos on this one.

Disgusting! Rude! Horrid!

Gamefreak 12-10-2011 05:37 PM

Its only a matter of time before amazon takes over along with google...
Soon a lot of stores will be closing their doors and have amazon to blame.

low blow indeed

wtf are they allowed to get away with these dirty tactics

i mean actually paying ppl to spy on small (barely surviving) businesses and encouraging ppl not to spend in their local communities is low

they could not give a monkeys

Money is power. Some things will never change.

Am az on is truly dominating - sick.

The type of person willing to wander around a store scanning items with their smartphone isn't likely to be too concerned with their local community anyways. In reality, I don't see it making that much of a difference.

Red X 12-11-2011 11:29 AM

I doubt the "majority" will stop purchasing from local stores just because Ama zon offers a 5% discount. That Is NOTHING...................

Also, I doubt the majority with smartphones are going to be scanning products with smartphones, most of the people get smartphones just to be cool, as in teenagers/young adults, and most of the adults with them purchase them, because they want something nice. Some don't even know how to work the touch screen lol. I honestly doubt they're going to use the barcode feature.

In my opinion this doesn't make a difference at all, even if there was a 10% discount, if i want something, and it's right in front of my face at an actual store, I WILL BUY IT NOW instead of signing online, purchasing it, and waiting for it to arrive in the mail. Let's not forget about the shipping charge, so it'll most likely not be a 5% discount when you include that.

I am an online shopper and always will be. I think some people prefer one or the other regardless of what discounts Amazon offer.

Specialized stores will continue to close because of the Amazons/Walmarts/Home Depots of the world.

Best Buy is having a tough time competing right now and will probably be the next Circuit City. Blockbuster and other video stores are few and far between because of NetFlix/RedBox. Barnes & Nobles and the rest of the book stores and nearly extinct because of ipads/kindles/ebooks.

Its sad fact, but most consumer prefer a bargain over supporting local businesses. E commerce is the hear to stay and businesses will have to adapt.

For food, I shop locally. Ditto for stuff to fix up the house. And, I like to eat out a lot. But for almost everything else, I shop online. Mostly because it is more convenient. You might save a few bucks, but it is pretty much a wash... No sales tax, but you pay a shipping cost.

My wife tells me that as long as women like to buy clothes, there will always be local shops. Sizes don't always run the same way, so they like to try stuff on. I guess I do too, at least for some things. I would buy T-shirts online, but I prefer to buy pants and suits locally. It is the only way I get the right fit and can have the pants altered for length. I tried buying some online, but it never worked out.

Sure, ecommerce will continue to grow. That is inevitable. But what Amazon is doing is just plain RUDE and TACKY! It is sleazy and rotten to the core!

amazonian 12-12-2011 07:50 PM

I do most of my shopping on Amazon. I use the Amazon app to scan things in stores all the time. Amazon is typically cheap since I have Prime and there is no sales tax.

I was in Walmart recently and scanned an item and for the very first time, Walmart was cheaper than Amazon. I was in a state that doesn't have sales tax so I bought it in the store.

Well,,,It is a SLEAZY tactic NO Doubt,,,but look at the Source,,Amazon,,,

It has LONG been Rumoured that if someone had a popular product that they were selling in the Matketplace that amazon Did NOT Offer, The would begin offering it,,,and they would of course have a GREAT Advantage in Both Buying Power and No Fees,,,the Marketplace seller could NOT Compete,,

I look at this app from another angle,,,I think it is Just a Way for Amazon to have a Tight Grasp of the ENTIRE Retail Market for as MANY products as Possible so they can have a Better idea of:

1) How much in fees they can get away with
2) Which products they should consider offering themselves Directly
